Midwest Home – Modern Roots

“Sometimes an aesthetic becomes so much a part of the collective consciousness that it seems to come from everywhere and nowhere. Such is the case with Bauhaus, the philosophy of mas-produced design that emerged from the Staatliches Bauhaus school, founded by Walter Gropius, taught such famous designers as Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Paul Klee before it was closed. Its adherents argued that mass production could be reconciled with individual artistic spirit, that houses and their furnishings should have a meaningful relationship to each other, and that every object should be sparely beautiful and functional. “Isis” bench by Glendon Good, Abraxas Arts”
